On Saturday most of the day was filled with the talks and dialogue of Sogyal Rinpoche and Fr. Freeman. "Attention" as the attitude in silence and prayer came strong and clear across in Fr. Freeman's opening talk, followed by a clear and straight forward exploration of Buddhist "compassion" and Tonglen-praxis. Several workshops gave the more than 250 participants a good opportunity to get the most out of the talks in direct practising and asking about what was heard. Sunday started with a catholic Eucharist celebration where the Buddhist guests received flowers at communion-time - a great idea and welcomed sign and symbol. Many of the Buddhists presented the flowers to back to Christians, so that after a while one could not be to sure about the meaning of the flower, just one moment ago indication Buddhists. A Tsock celebration followed and impressed the whole congregation deeply. One could clearly sense, that here something special was happening in sharing these deep forms of celebration and prayer together. The only downside of the event might be due to the structure of the inviting partners: Rigpa and the WCCM: there was not enough advertising and the conference fee was to high for interested students. The audience therefore was a more or less already in one or the other organisation tuned middle class one - this is not to take away any of the excellent intentions or motivations. The excellent balance of practice and theory, fresh thought and ancient traditions, Buddhism and Christianity was a pleasant, healthy and absolute enriching experience! Such an experience would be helpful for students of theology in our time. But the high cost of the conference prevented many from coming along. Altogether a very successful seminar, hopefully followed up by something of the same kind. Thank you Sogyal Rinpoche and Fr. Freeman! _____________________________________________________________________ The Networkinfo-Magazine is a free quartal published email magazine of the EUROPEAN NETWORK OF BUDDHIST CHRISTIAN STUDIES _____________________________________________________________________ To SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE this magazine, fill our networkInfo/form in the homepage: www.buddhist-christian-studies.org click NETWORKINFO at the menu bar or send a mail to roetting@iol.ie subject> subscribe magazine or unsubscribe magazine (c) December 2001 by European Network of Buddhist Christian Studies =====================================================================
