The European
Network of
Buddhist Christian Studies was established 1996
in
Hamburg at
the Academy of Mission, University of Hamburg. In this time the title
was
"European Network for Christian Studies of Buddhism". At the conference
1997
in St Ottilien the name changed in "European Network of Buddhist
Christian
Studies" and the Secretary changed to St. Ottilien. In June of
1998
the hompage of the network was established. At the conference in St.
Ottilien
1999 (Buddhist Perceptions of Jesus) participated 120 people from
Europe
and Asia. In Lund/Höör, Sweden, 56 participants discussed the
topic "Christian Perceptions of Buddha". The next conference was held
2003
in Glasgow, Scotland the topic was "Creation".
In
2005 the seventh conference on "Conversion
and Religious Identity" in St. Ottilien, Germany, with 85 participants
was
a great success. After nine years the president of th
Network,
Prof. Dr. Aasulv Lande, ( Lund, Sweden) gave ist post to Prof.
Dr.
John May, (Dublin, Ireland). Br. Josef Götz OSB, (St. Ottilien,
Germany)
handed the post of the secretary over to Martin Rötting
(Freising,
Germany). John O' Grady joined the Webpage team. The seventh converence
in Salzburg/St. Virgil Austria was held on "Buddhist Attitudes to Other
Religions".
The 2009 converence in St. Ottilien/Munich, Germany will be on "Sources of Authority in Buddhism and Christianity".
